- In a Magic: The Gathering (MTG) Sealed Deck tournament, players open six unopened booster packs on-site and build a brand-new, minimum 40-card deck using only those cards plus any number of basic lands. Core Rules & Setup • Card Pool: Open 6 booster packs provided at the start of the event. • Deck Size: Build a deck with at least 40 cards (most competitive decks run around 23 spells and 17 lands). • Basic Lands: You can add any number of basic lands (Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, Forest) even if they were not pulled from your packs. • Match Format: Matches are typically played as Best-of-Three using Swiss-system pairings. • Registration: For official competitive events, you must register your card pool on a deck sheet before playing; casual or prerelease events may allow you to adjust your build between rounds
